Tesla continues to innovate! Not only is the multi-billion dollar entrepreneur and owner, Elon Musk, sending cars to Mars, but he is also peppering a chain of Tesla supercharge stations along a scenic route from LA to Denver. Nestled between Starbucks and The Crepery off Sunset Blvd, the convenient location provides free Wifi and access to coffee, fine dining, and shopping.
As explained by Tesla Motors, the Supercharge station is a series of 8 connectors that charges the S model in a matter of minutes rather than hours. A standard 30 minute charge will provide nearly 170 miles of drive time. While the wait time seems inconvenient compared to a regular gasoline fill up, the benefits of owning an EV (electric vehicle) far outnumber the costs associated with a conventional petroleum/diesel vehicle. Most notably, they are less expensive to run. The electricity to charge an EV equates roughly 1/3 as much per kilometer compared to buying petroleum for the same car. And since the Tesla charging station is free, it comes at no cost to the owner!
Further more the Tesla is an environmentally friendly vehicle (our favorite reason to love the Tesla). With zero emissions, the vehicle will not pollute the air with poisonous greenhouse gases, like Carbon. By choosing to drive an EV, you are choosing to support and salvage the environment. Cleaner air means healthier, happier people.
Also, for those with a need for speed, EV’s are fast. The layout of the motor is essentially one engine per wheel, which can perform individually, resulting in a quicker acceleration time and top speed performance. Take for example, the Model S in Ludicrous Mode managed to beat an Aventador Lamborghini in acceleration time.
So why is this a big deal for us? Considering we are an isolated town of roughly 82,000 people, St. George is relatively small and behind on many current innovations. However, the introduction of such a cutting-edge company has encouraged the push for further technology and improvements to compete with larger, nearby cities, like Las Vegas and Los Angeles. The charging station also promotes a greener lifestyle and encourages drivers to reconsider driving an EV or be more conscientious of drive time in their standard petroleum/diesel vehicles.
Be green and join the Tesla trend sometime! Or, if it’s a bit out of your price range, there are many other eco-friendly EV options that are just as stylish (for the most part). Take for example, the Nissan Leaf, the Volkswagen e-Golf, or the Hyundai Ioniq EV. All of these options come with a budget-friendly price tag and no cost to operate.
